March 12th, 2010

Q: What sunscreen do I really need?
A: The sun’s rays do a number on skin, even in the spring. A lotion with a high SPF helps combat aging, while in many cases moisturizing and helping you maintain your radiant glow. Our Spring Picks:

Peter Thomas Roth Oil-Free Sunblock SPF30 is formulated with pro vitamin B5 and the anti-oxidant benefits of vitamins A, C & E to protect and nourish skin plus it allows for minimum tanning. It screens and blocks out the sun’s UVA/UVB and harmful infrared rays to help prevent sunburn, skin damage, freckling and uneven coloration. Provides very high sun protection with minimal tanning—up to 30 times your natural protection from sunburn.

Cellex-C Sun Care SPF 30+ is a broad spectrum sunscreen which protects against both UVA & UVB rays. This lotion is suspended in a moisturizing base that can help replace your daily moisturizing cream. It’s absolutely perfect for runners, golfers, cyclists, snow skiers and outdoor enthusiasts as it will not drip or run into the eyes and sting when perspiring. Best for people with dry skin types.

Guinot High Protection Soothing Sun Cream SPF30 has UV protective filters to guard your face and body from harmful rays.. And it doesn’t stop there, it also protect your skin from dryness, aging and dark spots. It helps provide a more radiant tan, firmer skin and anti-dark spot protection.

You’ve long traded in your swimsuit and flip-flops for boots and oversized sweaters. You can no longer pull off beach hats and that self-bronzer you adore for your weekend getaways. Winter’s in full swing – and how do you deal with the woes it has to offer you?

>>PROBLEM: Chapped lips

Everyone gets them. But why not try a regimen that doesn’t include a traditional chapstick your kid sister would use?

For daytime, opt for Biotherm’s Aquasource Moisturizing Balm Protective Lip Care Shiny Effect SPF8. This peach-scented lip treatment works as an SPF and adds some color as it moisturizes, with a pink hue. Made to repair and soothe. 421648
For nighttime, Clinique’s Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment works wonders. This balm intensely moisturizes while you sleep, and helps revamp your once shiny lips. It can also be applied during the day for a natural, silky sheen. 428464

>>PROBLEM: Dry Skin (Face)

Your face is peeling, and it’s not from that awesome tan you were sporting all summer long.

To get rid of facial flakes, start off with an exfoliator. Try Borghese Exfoliant Delicate Cleanser. An exfoliator and gentle cleanser in one, it unclogs pores, buffs away flakes, conditions and improves hydration. 404269
You’ll be a fan of multi-tasking with Cellex-C Enhancers G.L.A. Extra Moist Cream. Cellex-C Enhancers adds an additional task to the list with their G.L.A. dry skin cream, moisturizing very dry skin while diminishing the appearance of fine lines due to dehydration. 404422

>>PROBLEM: Dry Skin (Body)

Your body feels like sandpaper. You need some major skin repair, and fast.

Start with Guinot’s Energizing Shower Gel. Cleaning and refreshing skin without drying, the gel leaves your skin glowing and feeling velvety smooth. 422843
L’Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Rich Body Cream provides rapid moisture to severely dehydrated skin. Perfect to use right out of the shower. It creates a defensive barrier on the skin’s surface, revitalizing skin as it repairs it. Did we mention it also leaves skin soft and smooth? 419641

>>PROBLEM: Rough Hands, Feet and Nails

For the area around the nails, try Bliss Manicure’s Best Friend Nail Nourishing Cream. When applied on the cuticles and the nails themselves, nails become stronger and cuticles softer. Dr. Hauschka Neem Nail Oil helps prevent nails from peeling and splitting—one of the downfalls of wintry weather. 432353

Are you a fan of getting 2 for the price of one? Dr. Hauschka Rosemary Leg & Arm Toner does just that. The treatment exfoliates and smoothes and helps improve texture, while promoting cell renewal for both legs and arms. 425994
If you’re a high heel worshiper—or just one of uncomfortable shoes in general—you’re very familiar with calluses. Ahava Mineral Foot Cream helps eliminate dead skin cells and prevent calluses. A combination of Mineral Skin Osmoter plus Tea-tree oil and other natural plant derivatives leave feet  feeling refreshed. 432024

What’s your AM PM Skincare Regimen?

December 19th, 2009

Maintaining a healthy, glowing skin takes commitment and discipline. It requires a healthy diet, plenty of rest, lots of water and exercise – among other things. Our overall well-being can be seen in our skin. It shows the kind of lifestyle that we have. There’s no better time to start caring for our skin than now. If we neglect our bodies, all the skincare in the world will do us no good. So make a commitment to start caring for yourself – inside and out.

It may sound ambitious to you, but achieving a healthy-looking skin isn’t really that hard. You just have to stick with the regimen that works for you. Having said all that, we are giving you the low-down (aren’t we just wonderful?) on a simple and basic skincare routine that’s very easy to stick to (no thanks necessary).

We recommend applying a cleanser first, to remove oil and any makeup residue. Pick a water-soluble cleanser as this will leave your skin feeling clean but not tight and dry. Then, use a toner to help unclog pores, exfoliate and smooth the skin. After applying the toner, revitalize. Choose a revitalizer that contains AHA, this will firm up your skin and hide some superficial wrinkles. In addition to this, consider taking Vitamin C to help boost the production of collagen, combat the effects of free radicals in your body and on your skin. Now you can apply sunscreen – a very important part of your morning skincare routine. You can use a sunscreen moisturizer or a separate sunscreen and moisturizer. You can do this routine twice a day – in the morning before applying your makeup and in the evening before going to bed. Just skip the sunscreen at night and use a cream instead, preferably with Retinol complex to prevent skin from premature aging.

Just follow these steps to bring off the kind of skin that will instill envy and inspire admiration from anyone around you. Very easy but very effective.

Do you SPF all year round?

August 20th, 2009

The sun’s rays is one of our greatest nemesis (like water is to Catwoman) when it comes to keeping our skin supple, flawless and younger-looking. Wrinkles, brown/liver spots, are the effects of skin exposed to too much sun. But what if you love the outdoors? What’s a girl to do? There are a number of ways to safeguard our skin. Eating foods loaded with anti-oxidants like fruits and vegetables, getting enough sleep, and having a simple skin regiment that is easy to stick to is just a few of them. And since Bikini season is at its peak, there is no skincare product more popular or more widely used than sun blocks with high SPF and tanning lotions.
The real question, though, is: should you just SPF during the summer?
OR should you make it an all-year gig?
Dermatologists recommend using makeup and skincare with SPF everyday, regardless of the season. The sun’s rays are harmful to our skin, causing skin problems from minor irritations and breakouts to a more serious problem like skin cancer. But not all hope is lost, introducing Clinique’s line of SPF Creams: Clinique Super City Block Ultra Protection SPF40. With its High SPF, your skin is not only well protected but superbly moisturized as well. The Clinique UV-Response Body Cream SPF30 and Clinique UV-Response Face Cream SPF30 are also every woman’s must-have, to keep skin looking younger and more vibrant. This duo is the perfect match, a whole-body protection that prevents skins premature aging. With these products, you’re free to have all the fun that you want, under the sun.. We love these products so much we keep a stash of it!!! We think you should, too.
